Macaroni and cheese is a childhood favourite, pasta baked in a cheese sauce is one of the most comforting foods throughout childhood.
It is an ideal meal, perfect for a busy family, or a student craving a home cooked meal. Macaroni and cheese is quick and simple, so you can always find time to cook and if you make a large batch of macaroni and cheese it will still taste great as leftovers, perfect for tomorrow’s lunch.
Ingredients
- 250g macaroni pasta
- 45g butter
- 40g plain flour
- 600ml milk
- 250g grated cheddar cheese
Method
- Cook the macaroni according to instructions on the packet.
- In a large saucepan melt the butter and add in the flour, mix well.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, a little at a time until it becomes a smooth sauce, it should take about 10 minutes. Remove sauce from the heat and mix 2/3 of the grated cheese in.
- Add the macaroni to the sauce and mix well.
- Then pour the macaroni in to an oven dish, sprinkle the remaining cheese on top and cook under a hot grill until cheese is melted and bubbling.
