Hi all
My 18 year old son has developed a rash on his one arm and down his one side. The rash doesn’t fade when you do the glass test . He has no other symptoms and has had this rash since yesterday morning . He doesn’t live at home but had been keeping me up to date. He’s been well enough to go to work and as I said has no fever , stiffness of the neck, vomiting etc. The rash has not spread .
He had put fake blood on him for a Halloween themed night at work the night before he had the rash . Not sure if it is an adverse reaction or not. Was worried about meningitis.

can he get to a walk in clinic.....I'd get it checked even though he's a grown up
Well, you can never say never but as he feels so well it is unlikely - if in doubt get him to show someone medically trained.
Remember you can visit the chemist - they are medically traing as well.
asking a chemist should be a last resort, in my experience, some of them are ignorant.
I went to my chemist when I had a rash on my face and he said he was 99% sure I had shingles - he was right.

I’m a dispenser for Boots and I didn’t have a clue about his rash. Yes I agree some pharmacists are ignorant egotistical idiots.
Not meningitis, he is too well.
Does the rash itch.
Question Author
Yes it does itch. He did have shingles when he was 12 and wondered if it could be that flaring up. So wish I could put a picture on
You will have to wait over the weekend to see if blebs appear.
Is it a solid rash or more spotty but over a large area?
Question Author
More clusters
Of spots or patches of rash? If the latter, did it start off with one scaly patch?

Spots
Aww, I hope it clear up soon for him. I've found Eurax lotion good in the past for itchy rashes with Shingles and Pityriasis Rosea.

It's not cheap but much less messy than calamine lotion. I kept it in the fridge when at home so really nice and cooling. I looked it up for a link but it doesn't seem to be very available. They do a cream as well.

It was the Pityriasis Rosea I was thinking of, if not Shingles, it was quite a dramatic rash which didn't fade. I didn't have it in the usual Christmas tree presentation. It was itchy too.

Thank you Eve
I work for Boots the chemist and can get the Eurax. I agree it’s not cheap but it is a good all rounder . If he’s still suffering tomorrow I will get some when I go to work
