check-out work

Hi

Looking to save up for a gap year and looking a work at local supermarkets as I need all the hours I can get. However i just looked on a couple of sites and they say to keeping checking the site as there arnt any vacancies. I thought check out staff were on a rolling contract and simply needed to apply regardless of vacancies as there is such a demand for extra staff.

How do i go about this? Can anyone talk from experience?

why not call into the actual stores that you are intested in?

soph, nope the checkout staff arent on rolling contract(they were on normal contracts as the rest of teh staff in the store), i know from experience as i usedf to work for Mr S, any job vacancies are advertised on the internet these days, you can try going to the stores but they may say to check the website(we didnt actually know what if any jobs were available for our store). As well as the supermarkets theres also other retailers who have checkout staff eg argos, comet, currys, pc world, staples, bhs, marks and sparks, debenhams, dunelm, wh smiths, john lewis,

i went off on a tangent there, were you specifically wanting checkout work in a supermarket ?

Nope, looking for any type of work that will give me maximum hours, without breaking the law ofcourse. But you've given me some great ideas about other employers.
