The problem here, of course, is that the most recent UK version requires an online patch to be installed before it will work properly - and that's no longer available...

There was a workaraound available which involved creating an updated installation CD from the original by combining it with the patched version after installation but, unless you did that before the online services were discontinued (because that's where the patch was), then you're pretty much stuck.
All Microsoft had to do was to make the patch downloadable, say, via Windows Update. But they haven't...

When I read your post and followed the links it said patches were no longer available. I did read it :P There are two administrator parts, one machine-one database. If the original machine was patched and you copied the files over then in theory the patches are there but not installed (maybe). The copy is working (since Inq says he can't put in decimals). Because I think the problem is the error message and not that its working/not its buggy. Any effort at a solution is a good effort. Depending on how the software was installed and reinstalled Administrator =/= admin group. The obvious solution is to use http://www.microsoft....47488&displaylang=en. I certainly wasn't trying to contradict you.
It depends on where its looking and where it looks first. Microsoft Office has these same sorts of issues where the patch is there but not updated to the registry. I've seen working examples of that. It is possible that I've got him pissing in the wind, but because the error message reads that the patch fails because he's not admin instead of a download error it was worth a shot.
