Hope someone can help me with this one.

Recently my NEC 1300A drive has stopped recognising DVD discs (blank, bought & DVD-R)

It still burns & reads CD's no probs but any DVD disc inserted doesnt even show up on 'my computer'. it just doesnt seem logical.

Im using XP home the firmware on the drive is 10.b, if anyone could help id be extreamly grateful.

It sounds like it's broken i'm afraid. This has happened to my laptop. And it happens to PS2s all the time. The DVD circuitry is slightly separate to the CD parts of the same drive. If the laser gets screwed for whatever reason, CDs will often still play. I suggest getting a new one on warranty.

Cheers mikeyp, got a similar answer from a different forum.

Any suggestions for a new drive?

Im tempted by the NEC 2520, seen it online for 34 delivered.

Yeah that sounds like a good call. 34 is not bad at all.
