I am going to buy a PS3 - what effect does the larger memory have compared to the smaller 160gb ?

Is there any real need for a larger memory ?

its just storage space. more room for downloaded content, music, pictures etc.

if you're thinking of putting alot of media on your PS3 then go for the bigger one. IMO 160gb is more than plenty if you're just going to use the HDD for saved games.

I was going out to buy a PS3 today, but then I got shot in the knee with an arrow.
I've got a 320gb one coming as a Christmas present, I've no idea what I'm going to use all that storage for as my old one only had 40gb which I never came close to filling, but I don't care really because I'VE GOT A PLAYSTATION FOR CHRISTMAS!

Please excuse the shouting as I'm rather chuffed!
*tsk* 'TOOK an arrow in the knee' If you're going to do internet meme's then do it verbatim!
The 360 needs a large hard drive for full installs but as far as I am aware most PS3 games don't need this so not quite sure what you would do with it either!
I think 160GB is enough for storing games, music, videos, and photos. Here is a link about 160GB ps3 console for your reference:
