can anyone tell me why i'm getting unwanted web sites come onto my computer eg gambling sites and other sites that offer me the chance to meet women from various countries and so on this has started 3/4 weeks ago and how i can block them

Download and run the free version of Malwarebytes to see if it finds anything

It's my guess that 3/4 weeks ago you downloaded something which you wished to install on your computer and 'Pups' (Potentially Unwanted Programmes) came along with it.

Anyway, VHG has put you in the right direction to clear out such items.
