Can An Ipod Touch 4Th Gen Run Ios 8
12 Answers
Hi I been offered an iPod touch 4th gen 32gb to buy but the owner says it's been updated to ios8. I didn't think they could run this? Is it worth buying and can you downgrade to a lower version of iOS? Thanks

iOS support also is a major point of differentiation. The iPod touch 4th Gen models only are partially supported by iOS 6. Most notably, when running iOS 6, the iPod touch 4th Gen models do not support Maps, Siri, Panorama, and FaceTime over cellular. They are not supported by iOS 7 or subsequent versions of the iOS at all, which may be particularly upsetting to some users as the device was sold as new a mere eleven days before iOS 7 was announced.
The iPod touch 5th Gen models, by contrast, are fully supported by both iOS 6 and iOS 7 and will be compatible with iOS 8 (which specific feature support forthcoming).

Just to add I am very happy with this early iPod which seems to be ios4. Contrary to what it says below I have maps and facetime. So can use it for calls when in wifi area and it had viber.
Other attractions camera, video, calculator, voice recorder, stopwatch, alarm clock, emails, Internet.
Would not be without it.
If seller has somehow put iOS8 why would you want to change to lesser version?

If it's running ios8, it means that they 'jailbreak'd' it.
Definition of Jailbreaking. Jailbreaking is the process by which an iPhone firmware is modified to allow unsigned code to be run to gain access to files that Apple wouldn't normally let you access.
It's more or less possible to run anything on anything else if you know what you're doing.
I suggest you stay well away from this purchase - you don't know what else the seller has tried doing with the phone.

Jailbreaking is legal in the UK: however I wouldn't have thought you could 'jailbreak' a device to run an incompatible operating system. Surely there is a fundamental hardware incompatibility?
Either way I would stay well away from it, unless you can have a look at the iPod for yourself to see what OS is actually on there

ichkeria: You'd have hardware issues with attempting to run say Microsoft Windows on an Ipod. However you can easily run Linux on an Ipod.
My brother, years ago, turned an old Xbox into a Windows Server - hardly that special as all the components are compatible.
I do understand what you're saying though; staying away from the sale!
