Mobile Phone - Free Up Memory
9 Answers
I'm still having issues with my Motorola Moto G2 being short on memory when apps need updating. I added a 32Gb SD card ages ago, thinking that would solve the problem. I didn't realise that most of the apps I have can only be stored on the internal memory - so that is the issue,
I have moved any apps that can be stored to the SD card but would like to disable or remove others that were on the phone from new, but which I never use. Quite a few are google related such as Gboard, Google+, Google play games and several related to foreign languages such as Google Hindi input. Gboard takes up 142mb. If I select the "i" icon it gives me the option to "disable" or "force stop". Selecting disable brings up a warning notice that says "if you disable this app, other apps may no longer function as intended. Your data will also be lost". The same message comes up for the other Google apps mentioned. I'm Evan I losenot even sure if disabling the app would free up memory anyway as it would still be on the phone. The phone only has 8Gb of internal memory, most of which is eaten up by the OS. Can anyone suggest anything I can do to safely remove an unused app that will not affect remaining apps working ok, and not mean losing data. Thanks

your music and photos will be aready stored on your sd card, if you've moved all the apps you can to the card there's no much more you can do unless you root the phone and that,s not easy, i've tried dozens of times and nothing works, get rid of all the apps "you" have put on and don't use that often. don't bother with cc cleaner, excellent on a pc / laptop but no use on a...

If you are running Android 6.0, yo can configure an SD card as internal storage, rather than as removable storage. The OS will then behave as though there is 40GB on board.

Thanks for all responses, much appreciated.
Just to say I do regularly switch phone off, and also clear cached data but thanks for suggesting this.
I am looking to get a new phone in a few months and have considered a Moto G5 - Amazon do one exclusive to them which is dual sim and 3Gb Ram (mine has 1Gb) but it only has 16Gb Memory rather than that suggested by Gilbert53 og 32Gb which I'd prefer. There are other variants of it that are 32Gb but not dual sim. My G2 is dual.
Just picking up on Ivor4781 and the bit about music and photos will already be on the SD card. I don't have any music as such on my phone but I do take a lot of photos. I'm not 100% sure how it works but when taken they save to Gallery which is internal memory, and are also linked to Google Photos which also seems to be internal memory. Currently Gallery is using 34.17 Mb as I've copied most to my PC, whilst Google Photos (ever being added to) is using 445Mb. I'm a bit puzzled though because I thought Google Photos was cloud based as it is only accessible if I've got internet access??? This figures as the same photos can be viewed via Google Photos using Laptop. How can I save the photos to the SD Card and is it just the Google Photos app itself that is using 445Mb. I'm not all that tech savvy but trying....!!

if you can see yours when plugged in (when you plug into usb drag the screen down and tap on photo transfer) click on file explorer you should see your phone on the left click on it if you see both drives click on internal dcmi or something like that find you photos file click on copy then open the sd card and stick then in pictures when thats done delete the internal photos file hope that works now ive got to sort this problem ive just encounterd

Thanks "ivor", sorry for delay replying hadn't frealised I'd had any responses to my last posting. I'll give what you have suggested a try. Does your phone auto save to Google Photos and am I right that this is cloud based storage? If it is then I'm unsure why it is using up 445mb of internal memory???? Like I say, I'm still learning!!!!!!
