HELP!! Need to wangle two weeks of work!!

Hi - I need to pull a sicky or something to get two weeks off of work. How can I do this? The job I'm in means i'd need a doctors note after 3 days off- and I'll be out of the county. What's the best way of doing this? What's the best illness or ailment to have - so i can get a doctors note for 2 weeks. please help!!! xxxx thanks

Aren't you entitled to holiday pay? if not then I'm not sure. You *may* be able to get a doctors note just by asking, but it's risky and you'll be charged for it, they don't just write them out free of charge, not to mention you'd probably have to have symptoms. Best thing to do is to talk to your boss, try and think of a good reason you need the time off and just ask them, They can only say no, whereas if you pull a sickie for 2 weeks and they find out you weren't ill they can sack you.

Sick for two weeks? They'd think you were dying lol! I'd just ask for unpaid time off if you can't do it any other way. I know some places can be really funny over too many people being off at once, so I gather yours is one of those if they won't let you go off? How long have you got before the holiday as surely they've got to be reasonable?

You don't need a sicknote until 7 days of abcence by law. Go for symptoms of aching all over and headache feeling lethargic tired and a little and stress little depressed and bot usual happy self.

Can you get a dr's note saying you are off with stress? This is a stunt that used to be pulled all the time where I work when people wanted a holiday when they had no leave left.

Our welfare suggests that you go on a holiday when you are stressed so you take a couple of weeks off with stress and go on holidays

Be a man /woman and just ask for the time off .Pulling sickies when you are not ill is the same as stealing unless you are going to tell them not to pay you while you are off !

Thankyou you're answers are so thoughtful. but I'm a teacher - I can only have school hoilday time off - my husband has won a holiday to florida for a week in ferbuary. We have never had a honey moon and would love a holiday together- but my head teacher is such a bitch she would never allow it. I need two weeks coz, I'd go away for a week - come back with a tan - aggh after being off sick - then theres another week at school , then its half term - hence the need for two weeks - i totally understand the stealing from work thing - but it just can;t be done - my boss is a cow, and i've got the chance of a honeymoon at last - help!!! x

This is tricky. I am a teacher too, so I know how you feel. I would go and see your DEPUTY head if they are more approachable, or Head of Department- your workmates may be able to cover your hours between them for the week, so cover may not be necessary. You could ask any other colleagues if they wouldn't mind standing in for you, and promise that you will set all work in advance so they won't have to organise a thing. THEN go and see your boss and say you have won this amazing prize, and please can you go, since you never had a honeymoon, and you have asked your colleagues and then are happy to step in for you just for a week.

Only a real biatch would say no, and by then, your colleagues would be on your side, and hence your boss would be v. embarrassed to say no to you AND everyone you have told.

You could also offer to do it unpaid, which is a fair swap, so the money you would earn is going to pay a supply teacher.

At my College we have time off for all sorts of things- we are all musicians, and if we go on tour or whatever, College just has to make do without us for a week or two!

it's difficult to get time off when you work in a school, I wanted time off for a funeral (half a day!) and my head kicked off about it!! :o( I wouldn't mind but I even suggested to take it unpaid!!

If we tried what Scarlett suggests then we'd get it in the neck for using initiative and making changes behind the heads back!!

Stress seems the only way out of this one - otherwise you're going to have to come clean!

I work at a school, incidentally doing the cover, does your head ask for proof, I was thinking jury service would get you two weeks off work. Our Head has just started asking for proof of this but worth a try, if he does you could always say you deferred it.

Hi fizzyD, one problem with your time plan is that while you might get a good suntan in a week there is no way it will vanish in a week. So if you want to stick to the two weeks you had better keep out of the sun while on your hols.
