I have recently started to revive my chess career and I just wondered if many the games on these online sites are just people playing each other with chess engines? I would never do such a thing but is there any way of telling? I can usually tell if someone is using an engine but not always. What's your experience? EG chessworld.net
I don't know about people using computers, but whenever I've tried online I've found a lot of players who want to take on the less experienced in order to improve their statistics.
I have two computer chess sets & I play each day. With 768 levels to choose from why would I play against a 'real' person online, when I can play against Gary Kasparov?
"using a chess engine to play someone online? that's a very sad, lonely person that needs to get a life " - yes that's how I see it but history has demonstrated time and again in many arenas that winning overrides honour for some.
Whether you're playing a human or engine makes little difference. They have a rating, you have a rating, you tend to know what you're up against before the first move. Chess.com's rating system works quite well if both players have played a lot of games there.
You ask "What's your experience?"
I answer "Chess.com's rating system works quite well if both players have played a lot of games there."
You respond "I don't need to logon to chessworld to play a computer do I"
But I'm the one with the attitude, apparently ...
