Everyone who acquires a new PC should be forced, by law, to raise their right hand and swear "I promise to download and install IrfanView" :-)
It's a wonderful (free) image viewing and manipulation program and ought to be on everyone's PC.

More to the point, it can handle batch conversions in the blink of an eyelid.

Instructions:
First create a new (empty) folder where you want your jpeg files to end up.
Start Irfanview.
Select File > Batch Conversion/Rename
Navigate so that the 'Look in' field shows the folder which contains your bitmaps.
Leave 'File Name' blank.
Change 'Files of type' to show either 'BMP/DIB/RLE' or 'Common Graphic Files'
Click 'Add all'
Use the 'Browse' button to change the Output Directory to the folder which will hold your jpegs.
Ensure that 'Batch conversion' is selected in the 'Work as' area.
Change the output format to jpeg
Click 'Start'

Aagh! I've just posted a response but it's not shown up.

A whole load of my posts disappeared earlier but then reappeared, so I don't know whether you'll get it anyway.

I forgot the link, anyway, in that first post, so I'll try sending it now and see if my first post, with instructions suddenly reappears:

Paint Shop Pro does batch conversions as does Irfanview which is free and can be found here:
