Help! I am stuck in Kazakhstan in a room with the tesla gun and the creature that flies off when I try to shoot it - what am I supposed to do here?

If it's anything like the one on PS2, if i remember right, you've got to shoot the items on the walls to create some sort of barrier, after you give yourself enough time, there's something you're supposed to collect on top of the gun, can't quite remember what it was, please keep me informed if i'm right, and therefor, a total anorak :O)
