Some headsets have 2 jack plugs (one is for the microphone, the other for the earphones) - these headsets are generally used on light aircraft.

Other headsets have one jack plug (this jack plug has four rings, two rings for the mic and 2 for the phones)
There are two types of single plug - a US standard and a NATO (European) standard.

Headsets with two jack plugs are not able to be used on systems with one jack plug.
