We just bought a 360 elite, and ar in the process of setting it up. How do i know what the correct display settings to use for my tv. There are 5 options,

Optimal Resolution
480p
720p
1080i
1080p

I have no idea, what the difference is. The tv we are using with the 360 is a PHILIPS 26PFL5522 26" HD Ready digital LCD TV. Any advice will be appreciated. thanks.

depending on what hd cable you have, first set the standard tv settings to 60hz. your cable may have a normal/hd tv setting to allow this.if not, connect at 1st using the normal cable. the reason being that some games require 60hz to be set.once that is done i would go for the 720p option as i dont think your tv is capable of 1080p.

Thanks for the reply, i am using a hdmi cable, not sure how to change the tv to 60hz (will have to find the manual) I notice the games say 60hz only on the box, but they seem to play fine anyway.
you need to take your xbrick out of the widescreen mode, and 780 upwards mode to change to 60hz, I have complained to microsoft about this many times, because tvs that can do hd, OBVIOUSLY can process 60 hz..lol

Anyway 26inch tvs can not display 1080p
So 1080i it is for you.
oh, I think you also need to connect your normal tv cable, (xbox tv cable the non hdmi one) to revert to normal setting (so to speak)
it is your 360's settings you need to change not the tv.as said above, plug in the standard tv lead and the options available should change to standard definition ie 50hz, 60 hz etc
select 60 hz and switch you 360 off.swap lead back to hdmi and turn back on and then select your hd settings.once done you dont need to do the 60hz thing again and it is rare that game will clash with this but as you are setting up anyway it would be wise to get it out of the way.
