Looking to buy a PS3 advice needed
Hello everyone.
I am looking into buying a new PS3 and need advice on what I should be looking for exactly.Which hard drive size should I get, what leads come with it and will I need to buy any leads seperately, how many controllers come with the console etc, etc. Also what price should I be paying as I know it varies wildly from place to place.
TIA.x

If it's Gran Turismo you want, remember that the one available at the moment is effectively a demo version. You only get six tracks and a selection of the cars available. The "full" version of the game was slated for release in early 2009 last time I checked so it might be worth waiting until then as the prices should've dropped a bit.
To get the best price now, check out http://www.pricerunner.co.uk or http://www.dealtime.co.uk I've both of those sites pretty reliable for sourcing the lowest internet prices, alternatively if you're looking to upgrade your mobile phone in the near future, look at the phone adverts in the back pages of The Sun - you can often get a free PS3 chucked in with a new contract - that's how I got my Wii.
In terms of HDD size, the only one I've seen for sale recently is the 40GB one, the 60GB is not available for general sale anymore and is going for silly money on eBay. The 40GB console is not backwards compatible with any PS2 games either. The standard pack only comes with one controller and no Ethernet cable, but it has wireless capability so that's usually a moot point.

I bought a PS3 last month, like you I already own a 360 (& a wii).
Its ok, mainly bought it because of the blue ray player. Main advantage over the 360 is that it is a lot quieter. The 360 sounds like a noisy PC. The PS3 is almost silent.
Games wise there isn't much I want, bought a few PS3 exclusive games which were OK (motorstorm, fall of man, sing star)
GT5 prologue is rubbish, its good for a few days. It's a demo, luckily it came free with my PS3. I want the full game now. It's frustrating only being able to play a demo, knowing its next year for the full game.
Graphics wise it's no better than the 360. Most of the games only run in 720p, 360 games run at 1080i. Again Sony hype is all rubbish. GT5 prologue isn't as pretty as Project Gotham on the 360. Hoping this will change with full version
All said I like the PS3, at the moment it's not worth the money. If you had to make a choice I'd go for a 360, better games, better graphics and better online. I'm lucky I can afford both.

There is a granfd theft auto 4 version 40gb due out tuesday for 319.99 but its fairly limited. 60gb has been discontinued for months now and 40gb is only one availble in shops at the moment. But 80gb version is avaliable form other courties and should be here sometime this year, but they havent confirmer if there will be any difference to the 40gb aside from size. I assume they will make it backward comaptible like to 60gb as the 40gb isnt - but no comfimation yet. I t might be worth waiting to see if the 80gb has any more bells and whistles but if the 40gb is going to do you ok then you can pick up a few bargain deals with the GTA console in places like HMV/Game etc...
You get all cables aside form HDMI but they are cheap to pick up and one controller console basic costs 299.99.

BTW in my history of selling consoles I have never known them to put a price up only down. The only thing that will change price wise is the deal you get - ie the games etc...
If anything they stay the same or like the 360 recently drop in price in favour of newer models or to get a better run on other brands.

What I meant by putting the price up was that you will probably only be able to buy expensive bundles, they did it with the Wii last Christmas,it was impossible to get the basic package, that was if you could get one at all!!!
I am definitely going to wait until around September to get it now anyway,if there are further developements with HD size etc. hopefully they will be sorted by then.
