I'm interested in using Drows in my novel, but I'm not too sure if they are copyrighted or not. If they are, would it be possible to keep roughly the same idea but with a different name? And if they are copyrighted, who by?

you would have to make them slightly different or pay royalties to the author of the book you are stealing the 'drows' idea from. but this is only relevant if you intend to publish whatever your using them for.
