Spelling Games
Does anyone know of any good computer based spelling games which allow me to enter my own choice of words? My son is doing spellings and I just want another way of varying the look, cover, write and check method of spelling to keep his interest going.

A while a go I down loaded a little programme called R and R spelling which enabled me to type in the words for my six year olds spelling test. Then it hid them and asked him to spell them. It was a really good idea but it didn't work properly, every time you checked the spelling it threw you out and you had to load it up again. I just want something that enables me to enter the spellings he needs to learn but then gets him to practice them in a way that is a little more exciting than copying them out by hand. Learning your spellings is still that one area which is a bit dry and I want to add variety. I've tried googling but I didn't try searching for free ware so I will try that but I'm sure someone must have come up with something. Any games designers out there it's an untapped market!
When I was helping my kids with spelling I used to write out the words on cards and then sit opposite them and say the word...they would then spell it...if they got it right they would get the card...this went down well...variation was lay the cards down on table in a line at the end of which was a treat...they had to spell the words correctly to reach the treat ...variation turn the cards upright spell the words to them ...they have to recognize them and say the word and they earna point/card etc....Make mistakes urself and remember to make them laugh a couple of times thru the lessons....I think the jury is still out on computers for kids learning (imho). Good luck.
