which laptop?

my 11 year old wants a laptop. she likes gaming and chatting on msn to her friends. so many laptops to choose from. anybody know which would be best for her?

(what did she get for christmas / birthday ... cause if computers had been available when I was a lad ... it would have been one or the other ... or more likely both for that year!
a decent gaming laptop will cost �1200 - �1800
a decent laptop can be got for �350 - �400
a very decent gaming desktop will cost �500 - �600
a desktop has the added advantage of not being portable ... so she won't get mugged or drop it ... and if she spills pop (or at 11 is that a double expresso late with biscotti?)
on the keyboard a replacement will cost a few quid
think of a number - there are some decent deals at the mo
if still laptop - think dell, hp, or any of the other big names
(not PC world own brands)
