blocked i phone

I recently purchased a i phone 4 from gumtree. it was a private ad and when i rang the number i spoke with the man who was selling itand because he lived in hertfordshire and worked in london we agreed to meet in shoreditch to view the phone. I saw the phone and liked it. It worked perfect. he told me he was selling it because he bought a new blackberry which he showed me and he preferred it. I paid him 275 pounds for it in cash. I took the phone home and used it for a day when suddenly it stopped working. I was told it had been blocked? What should i do now? i tried calling the man back and i get no answer. Any suggestions what to do? much appreciated, thanks

an app you can download from the net called "ziphone" can unblock the networks to dual band an iphone as i done this myself to dual band mine, not 100% sure if it will get it back online and i think at £275, it is well cheap so would have probably been stolen as they can fetch a lot more than this off ebay.
if i was you i'd report it to the police as if he's done it to you, you wont be the first or the last and maybe they can trace who the phone belonged to or who had it that the phone companies keep a track of (only police can get this info from the network provider).

and i'd have made sure i got a landline number (parting with that amount of money) so i could trace it, or i'd have gone to herts to pick it up myself from his house.

Looks like stole phone. Report it to police.
If you get caught with it it won't help you taxi touting charge case.

Good luck. Could you please explain what was it with police that they even bothered to go as far as the court?

Well the only reason i can think of and is something the police officer told me off tape....that it was my word against his, and that his word had miore weight...i think they tried their luck and it backfired. The prosecution lawyer spoke to me afterwards and even said, hes glad i got off cos he was embarassed to prosecute but he had to as that was his job! Its ridiculous it even got this far!
