Microsoft is selling the script to any movie company (except comlumbis pictures as thats owned by sony) for $10 Million or 15% of the gross which ever is higher and demanding no less than $75 million is spent on it BEFORE actors fees are added.

They want it in production and ready to release the same day that SONY Playstation 3 comes out along with the new HALO 3 game.

My question is: Is it right for a company to produce a film such as this literally to blow a rival out of the water on the day of its new console launch or is it going to water down the movie business in terms of talent and creativity and start a whole new trend of films not for the enjoyment of filmgoers but to delibrately sabotage rival companies and theoretically turn movies into feature length advertising for a product?

I disagree with the concept of Mircosoft.  To have such a monopoly on an industry is ridiculous.  But I will say that I honestly don't imagine that it would make that much difference.  Playstation 3 will more anticipated than the new Halo3 game or the movie, I'm sure more people will buy the console (and spend far more money on it) than they will seeing a film or buying a game.  Say the game costs 40, the movie ticket costs 7, the console will probably cost about 300.  You're talking about 2 different markets but the same people will be interested in both.  It's not so much a competition as almost a collaboration in my opinion.  They both seem to be out to bleed the puter dry.

problem is tho, HALO 2 that was released earlier in the year is the highest selling entertainment product that not only outstripped all other games ever but has sold more copies in its opening weekend than any film has done at a box office (over 2 million copies sold and rising). so the HALO brand is technically bigger than PLAYSTATION.

1. Free market, right or wrong is irrelvant.

2.It is not 'literally to blow a rival out of the water' - it is 'metaphorically to blow a rival out of the water'. If it was literally then the company would have to be phsically located in water then to be actually removed from the watery environment by force.

3. Who cares.

I think it'll be a good film 'cos I'd have to play the hero, cos I completed it.It might get a bit boring in the middle though, when I get frustrated and go back to Max Payne for a bit.Hang on! I could be in that film as well! Get in!
