X-Box 360 Games
I've read the blurb on the new X-Box 360(I fancy one for Chrimbo!) but one matter is unclear i.e. will I be able to play bog standard X-Box games on it, X-Box 360 games exclusively or both?
Thanks in advance to those with greater knowledge than I in the world of gaming!

It hasn't been decided whether or not it will play all games yet, but it's a pretty safe bet that the big games will be available.
Alternatively, if you opt for the model that doesn't have a hard drive (or high definition output either) you will only be able to play XBox 360 games on it.
Patches for Xbox games will be downloadable from Xbox Live - The 360 comes with XBL silver which allows you send messages, download content and access the market place.
The core system is 209 the premium is 279
I have been told that the core system cannot be made backwards compatible.

it will play old XBox games through a emulator system that converts some of the old games processes to work on the new technology. Microsofts aim is to have every single old game working on the 360 but with the need to have a emulator that is universal to every single game is a tricky prospect as every game has been designed differently to take advantage of the old systems power and isnt easy to convert it, hence the fact that some games from the old Xbox may need a patch downloaded from XBOX Live 2.0 when it launches. Xbox were hoping this would be kept to a minimum however.
One interesting idea to come from Xbox Live 2.0 tho was the idea of games developers not producing full games but levels of games as they see that most average gamers by a game and only complete approx a 3rd of it so more money would be coming in offering a level at a time for a small fee, as players can start paying the developer after just one level produced, levels could be a lot better quality and not rushed to fill up a game within a short time limit, players only pay for what they want, and if a game isnt doing well saleswise, they can cancel a project without spending huge amounts of time and development costs producing dozens of levels only to find out it doesnt sell. Also with the first level offered free as a trial for people to make comments on how good it is would also suck people into wanting to buy the next level too
