I have 3 in my area (Reading). BBC Berkshire is exactly what you would expect; an excellent public service. It's just that because it is so diverse and often minority interest, I rarely listen to it. We have a large independent called 2Ten. Frankly, they are stuck in an 80's timewarp in terms of the style of the DJs and their attitude towards the 'punters'. I find that they quickly get on my nerves whenever I try and listen to them. And then we have a small independent called 107. They're trying to fit between the two (i.e. quite a lot of public service stuff as well as plenty of bland DJs playing the same old pap). I'm giving 107 the benefit of the doubt at the moment; they cover our local sport well which is important to me; their news, weather and traffic info is very local which I prefer to the national picture I get on Radio 2. The features can be interesting and they do their best to unearth the interesting local stories. I just wanted to know what people in other areas think of their local radio (because I never get to hear anyone else's).
SlimJim, I used to work in Swindon, and was subjected to GWR (Greater Wester Radio) the only record they had was that Nik Kershaw Classic "Wouldn't it be good to be in your shoes...."
