How long does it take to set up a ps3?
6 Answers
Morning All,
Just planning my evening. So far I've got: Go buy a ps3, Marvel vs Capcom 3 and an extra controller - then play it... BUT:
I know that this generation of consoles is a bit more complex than the last - i.e. it isn't quite plug-and-play.
So how long will I have to wait for the thing to set-up and update? I.e. what is the Box-To-Beating-Up-Dr.Doom speed?
I've also got to head back to the flat hills of my homeland, so I need to make some important timing decisions.
Thanks in advance.

If you want to get on-line with it then you'll need all the latest system updates, how long they take is somewhat dependent on your internet speed, so how long is that piece of string?

Excellent Chuck.
Lets assume a download speed of 1mb/s - are we talking an hour or hours?
Although I suppose it depends what version of the OS mine will run I guess as to how much "update" it will need?
I think I'll want to get online over the weekend at some point. So I can download StreetFighter II HDREMIX
Might have to find a fight-stick too. It will be like the old days with the Dreamcast...

you could always download the latest system software using the AB towers mega high speed connection
http://us.playstation...rt/systemupdates/ps3/
and then get yourself a USB memory stick, make a folder on it called PS3 with a subfolder called UPDATE (must be in capitals) copy the update you've downloaded into the UPDATE folder and then when you plug it into a PS3 it will update from the memory stick.

it's a 176MB update, so on your 1Mb/s connection you'd be looking at about a 20-25min download time + install time. (sure you could download a 176MB file this afternoon if you feed the hamsters a little extra)
No idea about the browser, not really used it but it should be OK for most sites, you can also plug any USB keyboard and mouse straight into the PS3 and they'll work fine to save you trying to reply to emails using the onscreen keyboard.
Seems to be some good details about the browser and what it does or doesn't support here.
