Aldred family in Lancashire

I'm helping a mate trace his family tree but have hit a brick wall. Ernest Aldred was born in 1873 in Fleetwood, Lancs. He married Mary Elizabeth Hopkinson. It is Ernest's dad where I have a problem. His father was Henry Aldred who died in 1874. I've found Henry on the 1871 Census where it states he was born in 1841 in Deane(?) Lancs and is a book seller/stationer. He is married to Elizabeth born in 1838 in Whitehaven. However, there the trail ends. I've found a Henry and Elizabeth on the 1861 where it states both were born in Little Hulton and Henry is a railway porter but I am not sure it is the same people. I can't find a birth for Henry or a marriage.

Any help from eagle eyed AB genealogists is, as always, appreciated. TIA

I couldn't find the marriage on ancestry BM...............I found it on thegenealogist (a site which is good for odd things)

Ahhh, that explains why I couldn't find the marriage! I was getting a bit cross with myself by then anyway. I said I'd help my mate do it because he wants to wear tartan at my wedding later this year. Apparently (so family lore has it) he is descended from the Black Douglas. Sadly, I've found naff all evidence of that. So far.

Having just re-read all these in detail rather than just skimming them, I realise that it looks like Dotty might have found the Douglas link. My mate WILL be chuffed. Nice one Dotty!!!

Barmaid I've just spent a short time in St Bees, took a picture of the church, I'm trying (unsuccessfully so far) to upload a tinypic or you, I actually fell into a pool on the rocks trying to get a picture of a seal sunbathing on the rocks that go out to sea and I dropped the camera, the memory card popped out but amazingly no damage to me the camera or the memory card1

If you are lucky enough to have Lancashire antecedents, there's Lancashire Parish Clerks, http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/ which may help, it's a growing transcription of the Parish records in Lancashire, in many cases preceding the 1837 start of registrations. It isn't as detailed as the Census but goes back further.

yes zebo it's quite a good set of transcriptions as it does give more detail than the IGI and can be used to confirm family groups, plus some non conformist registers have been used too, you can search for individuals or search by register, which is quite useful.
