Thank you so much dotty, very much appreciated.
I have been trying unsuccessfully, to trace the parents of Thomas Tilley, who was born about 1785, possibly in Corringham or Fobbing in Essex.
Any help would be gratefully received.
the nearest I can find is a Thomas William Tilly baptised 1 Aug 1779 Great Waltham, Essex son of Thomas Tilly and Susannah the village of Great Waltham is/was on the same road as Corringham and Fobbing.
Dotty,
had a couple of late nights since your post, as I have come to a full stop.
The info you gave me seemed very positive but I cant seem to get any farther.

The other Sister of my mother who I couldn't remember at the time was called Winnie but, below there are two called Mabel, unless my mother had a child who died.

Have sent off for a marriage certificate for my parents but could only give them names and town but no date, hope it will come back with more information.

What does: Source Citation: Class: RG14; Piece: 23905; mean?

Thanks Ron.

Household Members:
Name Age
John William Melia 26
Mabel Lydia Melia 24
Mabel Melia 3
Ellen Melia 1

Source Citation: Class: RG14; Piece: 23905; ; .
RG14 is the class number for the census, each one from 1841 starts with an RG reference a piece is allocated to each registration district the peice specifically identifying the registration district, the next reference is the sub district within that registration district, we still use this form today, then you have the page number, which identifies the actual sheet the address appears on, then the schedule number, which is the number allocated in numerical order to each enumerated dwelling.
No there is only one daughter called mabel the other mabel is the mother aged 24. Winifred Melia was born late 1911 and her mother's maiden name was Mabel Hickson, another lead for you there trt. Can't locate a death for Winifred either in the 1837-1915 or the 1916 -2000, though she may have been in a hospital in another district other than Chorlton.
trt the full refernce for your parents marriage was the one I gave you on the previous page,:
Ellen Melia and Robert Edward Turner married Quarter 2 1933 ref 8d 163 South Manchester , if you didn't put that info in your order, you can email it to the GRO site you've placed the order with, also in a link in my same answer previous page.
a marriage certificate for a frank haldane and maybe a ***** duncan around the turn of the centuary maany thanks.
