I've been trying to get hold of my Grandfathers police service record from the 1920's /30's.
Unfortunately West Mercia Constabulary have a policy of not releasing personnel information.
Does anyone know of any resources where I might find this information.

Yep, the police are an organisation you can request info from

that is unusual, I have aquired several police service records from a few different constabularies over the years, what office have you contacted? which part of the current west mercia district did your grandfather serve in?

He served in the Shropshire Constabulary.
I received the response from the HR Service Centre at West Mercia Police headquarters. Here is their response

"Following a review of all of the HR process, Subject Access to Personal Information has been an area which has been pending over the last few months.
The organisation has come to the decision that unfortunately we are not obliged to accept third party requests from anyone including family members regarding personal data unless power of attorney is in place. Unfortunately we are unable to assist on this occasion."
