Dotty I had 2 copies of the Hairy Bikers Diet Cookbook, can I take one back to W H Smiths, no receipt, if I took 2 copies in to prove it would that work?
Thanks for any help.
you are entitled to store credit to the value of the book at the time of return. ook at the sale of goods act for further details or the consumer.gov website x
if you do not have a receipt you can exchange it for another book to the value the diet cookbook scans at the till on the day you take it in, you cannot have a credit note as there is no such thing available, some managers may authorise the amount onto a smiths giftcard, but at their discretion, not sure which branch Icg works in but i am quoting the policy on items returned as not needed but without proof pf purchase.
Hi lgc76- whilst WH Smith probably will offer a refund (probably as a credit note) I am pretty sure they don't have to offer a credit refund under the Sale of Goods Act since the items is as described, fit for purpose and of merchantable quality, or whatever the exact criteria are.
Thanks Dotty and Icq76. I bought one for myself from Smiths and the other was a present. I am quite happy to have an exchange. Just hope the price doesn't drop that much before I get home!
Just to clarify, you are not entitled to return the book under any consumer legislation other than the one that states that if a company does have a returns policy for unwanted purchases then they have to advertise it and they have to adhere to it, smiths policy is that unwanted items can be returned for an exchange or refund in the original payment method within 30 days of purchase with the valid reciept, any other return is at the discretion of the acting manager at the time of the return.
all books have the same ISBN barcode maidup, makes no difference where it came from or where you take a book back, except when it's a book that isn;t on the stores product file, in which case it won;t scan at all, but that rarely happens and never with a chart title like the bikers diet book
