hi has anyone free access so i can find out who lived at a particular house in edinburgh in 1921 will appreciate any help and will post address if anyone can help tia

You might have a problem because census returns are embargoed for 100 years, so details of the census on 19 June 1921 won't be made available for another 5 years. The previous census was on 2 April 1911, so it's unlikely to be helpful as many people will have moved, or died, during the decade which embraced World War 1.

Your best chance of finding the information might be to see if the Electoral Roll for that year is held by Edinburgh City Archives. Email them ( [email protected] ) or phone [phone].

Haven't actually used it but I believe Findmypast, (you might get it free at the library) holds records of who lived in houses down the years and goes beyond the Census. Worth a try?

Your best bet is a trade directory for that era, there are many available on ancestry.co.uk.
