Dire stats here for Christian churches here in Britain.
"The proportion of the population who identify as having no religion – referred to as “nones” – reached 48.5% in 2014, almost double the figure of 25% in the 2011 census. Those who define themselves as Christian – Anglicans, Catholics and other denominations – made up 43.8% of the population"
Us Atheists appear to be in the ascendance. Anybody surprised by this ?

Literature in all its forms has given a wider view of the world and the potential that we ourselves hold without the need for it to attributed to some entity and not our own ability.

mikey@ But atheism is a religion. Religion is not necessarily the worship of God in the sky, but religion can be the worship of anything. Many people worship the rich and famous whether they be actors, singers or sports personalities.
In the book "The God Delusion" Dawkins is saying he hopes that his book converts ‘religious’ people to his view. Isn't this just what a missionary of any religion hopes to do?
Atheism is also taught to children in many schools in science classes as evolution. Thus teaching evolution is teaching Atheism.

idiosyncrasy...I am not sure why Atheism is such a hard concept for some people to understand. How can it possibly be a religion ?
People like me reject all gods, of whatever hue they come in. They don't "believe" in Atheism !
Atheism and evolution have nothing whatsoever in common. Those kids you speak of are being taught science, not superstition.

So evolution is superstition and atheism is superstition!
Of course atheism and evolution both advocate that there is no God, so yes, they are the same. I have a friend who believes in evolution and we often have discussions on the subject, he states that as an evolutionist he feels there is no God - so evolution = atheism = no god.
Therefore whether it be called science or whatever, children are being taught evolution and so because everything evolved, there can be no creator!
Naomi@Everyone worships something. It may not be called "God", but whether it be material or physical if it has an important place in your life, you worship it.

That doesn’t answer the question and it isn’t true. I can’t think of anything I ‘worship’. Nothing.
People of religion seem to have a problem in comprehending that others don’t want or need a psychological cushion to cling to. Atheism isn’t taught in science classes. It’s not a ‘subject’. It has no creed, no regulations, no code, no instructions, no rule book, no organisation. Science teaches evolution and that simply doesn’t involve the suggestion or notion of the existence of a ‘creator’. It’s wholly irrelevant.

Hi i was just observing ...from a simple dubirds eye view...issues relating to the subject around the WORD.....RELIGION...does this WORD relate to a conscious decission to acknowledge loving ones neighbour as one's self??? For instance under the microscope observe the WORD...LIVE.....if in a respectful way towards each other.. we have a modi.com of Peace in our life...however...reverse Live.... backwards...& ..EViL ...exists..this turns everything into another energy...& creates war zones
idiosyncrasy....( 08:27 )....evolution is most certainly not superstition !
Its going on around us all the time. The reason that it is hated and feared so much by born-again Christians, mostly but not exclusively American, is that disproves the Bible creation myth utterly. Those people still think that the Grand Canyon is only about 6,000 years old, and ancient man chased dinosaurs for their lunch, which is clearly a risible stance to take, in this age of mass education.
It just proves the maxim that you can take a horse to water, but its jolly difficult to make it drink.
Have at look at this site, if you need any more convincing !
