Along with many other establishments, (shops, businesses etc)
Stoke on Trent foodbank will be closing.

We had a guy ring up our Stoke on Trent office today to call us ''Selfish, vile and disgusting''
For closing for just one day???

We have had The Independant news paper, local radio (BBC Stoke & others), BBC Midlands tv and other tv channels ringing up, all asking why we are closing Monday??

Local news social media has vile comments about our closure
(Which is for one day only, like any other bank holiday)

Why do people expect volunteers to work on the day of the Queens funeral, while paid staff
get a day off??

(I'm no Monarchist but bloody hell!)

Im one of a handful of 'paid' staff.
But we have a network of over 250 volunteers in Stoke alone who
help to feed people and give their time for free.

Why the need to DEMAND that they shoud commit their time and enegy

Seems somewhat off that hospitals are postponing appointments. Had enough of that during the Covid panic.

Can't see a food bank closure being too harsh. Not like they are trying to catch up.

Because a lot of people these days look on food banks as a 'right'. They don't give a damn about the people giving up their time to help them.

Can half agree with you there andres.
We all know people that 'take' whatever they can from the system
(whatever that system may be)
But there are always other that take regardless and then there are
genuine people in need.
I was dropping off to one of our centres today when I was
approach by a woman who was on the verge of tears.
She explained that she had only a microwave and a kettle to cook with. Could I help her?
I explained that I was only the delivery driver but the centre that she was at would help her, when they opened.
And that she would have enough food to last her 3 days, no matter what her cooking facilities, if she explained to the staff her prediciment.

we all know that there are people that abuse them
but I see the other side of the coin.

There are people who need food banks and there are those that scrounge, are on benefits and buy the biggest and newest of consumer goods.
Nailit you are doing a great service for many people.

One day surely cannot make all that difference -people who go to Foodbanks will just have to request extra on Saturday or Sunday.

Have no idea of how the system works.

You cannot just turn up and do a weekly shop
There's a referal system in place.
You are only allowed so many items at a time.
etc....
the media would have you believe that its a free for all.
