With Notre Dame reopening after a stunning reconstruction that took only five years, maybe the powers-that-be could persuade those who did such a great job to help out in the rescue and repair of the Glasgow School of Art. Mackintosh's masterpiece has been ravaged by not one but two ghastly fires.
Now we know what can be done, it would be wonderful if the GSA could be restored to the standard of what has been achieved in Paris.

After watching ITV news tonight I intended posting a thread about Notre Dame but I'll put it here instead. They said the cost of the repairs was £600,000 but that doesn't seem like a lot of money for a job involving numerous people and lasting five years. I actually ran the report back to double check I hadn't misheard it. If they tell us how they did it perhaps similar methods could be employed elsewhere.
Yes, jackthehat, it's a building I grew up admiring, and at least it's heartening that the skills exist (as shown in the Notre Dame restoration) to return it to its former beauty. If only unlimited funds were available!
Plenty of other Glasgow buildings in need of saving, particularly some of those by the now almost-forgotten genius of Scottish architecture: Alexander Greek Thomson. One can but hope.
I love wandering around Glasgow looking at the stunning variety of architecture and architectural styles on display.
Glasgow was home to more than its' fair share of the best architects and artists of the mid-19th to mid-20th century.
I particularly applaud the keeping of the facades whilst carrying out a full new build of everything behind.
I haven't been up for quite some while and need to put that to rights early next year.
