Relations

Can anyone tell me or lead me to a website that clearly explains, how your relations are your relations? By this I mean, what makes 1st, 2nd, third, etc cousins? Or what once or twice removed means? I get 1st cousin, obviously, but from a genealogical stand point how does it all work. This is also to help me explain to a newly found, slightly distant "cousin".
