how do i research my family history in the US from here? where do I start? I only have my fathers name and that of his mother. I don't have any info on those ancesters who crossed the pond to the US-pos in the post revolutionary war period

you can join Ancestry.com from the UK and it includes the social security death index and the various records from each state, have a look at the site to see what there is and write down as much as you know, you could also look at the International Genealogical index which would cover alot of the US .
