Daniel Cook(e) married Caroline, they had 5 children and moved around the country. I have been unable to find a birth registration for the children, each census states a different place. Daniel came from Chalford and Caroline from Bourne, first child supposedly born in Lichfield. Any thoughts on how I can proceed with the ancestors of this line please

You need to trace their marriage but for that u need Caroline's maiden name, which will be on one of the childrens birth certifictates. What is the name of the eldest child and approximately when were they born? Alternatively, are you aware yet of any siblings of daniel Cook (e) ?

The eldest child is Alfred born c1850, on the census it says in Lichfield, but no joy there. The next child was Samuel, then Henrietta (sometimes Harriet) then Lucy and then Elizabeth (1862). In 1861 they were living in Leicester according to the census but I still cannot find the GRO reference for Elizabeth who definitely should be there, or a baptism certificate. I get the feeling that Daniel was a bit of a chancer, in 1851 they were in Wolverhampton, by 1861 in Leicester where he became Licensed Hawker.
There is an Elizabeth (Cooke) Cooke registered Q3 1862 at leicester ref 7a 201. And an Alfred Cooke registered Q1 1849 at melton Mowbery, might be worth asking if their parents match. remember the census was done in late march early april, and so aged should be calculated from then.

Thanks, I hadn't seen that Elizabeth, so will send for the certificate.

Sent for the Elizabeth certificate but she did not have Daniel and Caroline as parents. I did ask if there was an Alfred or Samuel on the certificate but they said no.

Oh well back to the drawing board
