can anyone help - i have an auntie who is mentally retareded i recently learnt that when she was younger she was raped by a park keeper. she gave birth to a baby boy in a hospital in london (she lived near brixton) at the request of my aunts mother, the baby was taken and presumably adopted.
i would like to find this baby boy who is my cousin as there are very few to my family. it is very difficult for my auntie to give any information, is there any way i can find this baby - what info do i need, does it have to be exact.
anxiously awaiting help. x x x x

I have a similar situation where my aunt gave two children up for adoption during WWII . I established that her remaining son could possible be able to trace them as his mother was dead but I was not allowed to. So to answer your question I believe only your aunt could start the search. However, if a relation has been given power of attorney over her affairs that right might have transferred to them. You will need to check with adoption services to establish procedures. If you google "adoption child" you will get a number of websites that can offer advice.
At the time there would have been alot of papaerwork created for the adoption, probably your aunt;'s mother had copies, are these papers still in the family? If you have an idea on the name the baby was registered in, as he would have had to be registered within 6 weeks using his birth mothers name, you can ask for a copy of his birth certificate from brixton register office, you then have the start of a clue, as the child will have been able to access their records from aged 18 and may know their history and not want to get in touch .
