what you get with Ancestry as regards census and BMD is far better, however, find mypast is alot more user friendly and I am able to find people very very quickly, alot easier than on ancestry, but what I really really like about findmypast is that if you find an error in the transcription and report it, you get free credits, and trust me, there are thousands of errors, I have managed to accumulate so many credits now!
You can do short term subscriptions on either , which I think is the best idea. I know alot of people on here use ancestry but it can get over subscribed especially at weekends and you can't get in!

Thanks dot, not had chance to look properly at findmypast but did the free registration bit and they sent me some tips

I subscribe to both, a bit expensive I know, but as dot says, findmypast is a lot easier than ancestry to use. I have had problems finding people on Ancestry but have found them easily on findmypast, though the census and stuff is better on Ancestry!

I've found freeBMD useful too, as it says, its free, so its sometimes useful to check there first before you use subscriber sites, its not as comprehensive, but as i say, I've found info on there ( assume its still going, haven't used it for a while)
