I am trying to find the death certificate for a John Hough born 1794 Osmaston. Derby. He was still alive on the 1
851 census, but I am lost there. If anyone can help

have you searched the GRO index of deaths using ancestry.co.uk? It will bring up any likely options and then give you a registration district.
Where was he living in 1851? That would likely be the district his death was registered in.
Have you looked for a burial or monumental inscription locally?
Looking at http://www.freebmd.org.uk are the following:

Sept. qtr 1855
Sept. qtr 1859
March qtr 1861
Dec. qtr 1861.

All for John Hough Derby
Also Sept. qtr. 1859 Shardlow district which covers Osmaston
