Fathers brother
7 Answers
I have for sometime now trying to find out what happened to my fathers brother.
I have obtained a birth certificate.
I have a passport entry saying he sailed to Malta in 1926,he was born in 1924...but it all comes to a halt there.
I have phoned Valetta...they have no record of a death there
What can I do next?

If he sailed, aged 2, did he not travel with the family?
Did you actually look in the passport and read that he left the UK?
Have you checked passenger lists, including Bernardo lists, for the surname?
From the birth certificate, are his parents the same as your father's? If so, was your father born after the family returned to the UK? Or was your father born in malta?
Was your granbfather serving in the armed forces when the family left the UK? If so his regiment and number should be on the boy's birth certificate.
the records for the regiments based in malta in the 1920s will be with the Chaplins records, probably now at the National Archives at Kew.

RAF Hal Far was the first RAF base in malta and opened in 1927, it is likely this is where the family were stationed.
This is it's location:

The 402 Flight of the Fleet Air Arm were definately at Hal Far base in 1927.
