illegitimate grandmother
My grandmother was born in Carluke, Scotland in 1903, and didn't have a father recorded in the birth register. However, the Register of Corrected Entries has recorded the full name of her father and given an address and occupation.
Unfortunately, it doesn't give an age. I've done a few searches but i've only found near matches with his name and they don't live anywhere near the address recorded. No exact matches - he seems to have disappeared.
Any suggestions how i could find out more about him?

The births of tha broide and groom is on a Scottish Certiicate,Remember in scotland they could marry anywhere, not just in churches or register offices, they could marry at home.
I can't find any exact matches for marriages for him either (i'm assuming his middle name or initial would be noted)
using only his first and last name, there could be several matches but no way of knowing which one is correct and none of them are in Troon (the address given in the Register of Corrected Entries)
I think i might be at a dead end :o(

is there a possibility he was English? have you looked at English civil registrations and census returns? Carluke is not far into Scotland and there was alot of migration in the early 1900s as agriculture was declining and people moved into the cities to find menial work.
What about siblings, and who was living at the address in 1901, was it maybe a lodging house?
What was his occupation? Have you looked at the area to see where he may have worked, is there any clue there as to of he may have been a transient worker? was he a builder of any sort?
Also work out how his name may be slightly altered with misspelling through someone mishearing it.
How long after the original entry was the amended rejistration done? How far from the given place of birth is the address given for him on the alteration?
