The metroplitan Archive is vast but they have been working towards this resource for a while, ancestry must be part funding it which means they know they can make their money back and wayyyy more. the thing is the primary source is available to search in person for free, but of course the less people who handle these records the better chance the conservators have of keeping them for posterity.
