Hi, I get my redundancy on the 28th August and I am going to take my Grandson to York for a few days over that bank holiday weekend, he is really into the historical stuff, I haven't stayed in York before, (my parents honeymooned there in 1950) but I would like to stay for 2 nights in the city near the river so that we can really spend some time there. Any idea? I fancy somewhere abit posh but family friendly.

ps Dot...i cant help with hotels sorry, but i can recommend a really nice Italian restaurant....Delrios @ 10 Blossom Street in York.

Lovely part of the world Dixie.....have you ever been to a nice wee place on the beach - opposite the Ballygally Hotel - there's a great guy there who does massage/reflexology etc???

Hi Dot....what a lovely idea. I wouldn't go for a posh hotel as they tend to be on the outskirts of York so you would need transport...and parking in York is terrible.
My boss used to stay here....

It is within 10 minutes walk of the station and easy walking distance of the National Railway Museum, the Jorvik Centre (Viking museum), the York Dungeon, York Castle and Museum, the Minster, in fact everything. Also if you come out of the hotel, turn right and then left it is 5 minutes walk to Silks favourite restaurant Del Rios which I would definitely recommend.

The Churchill is not bad just out of the city centre and easy to walk from. There is a city centre bus which takes you round the important bits, but it is quite a compact place so everywhere is within easy walking distance. Enjoy

i took my Mum to York for her birthday the year before she died and that's when she told me where she had stayed for their honeymoon, it was in a side street near the bridge over the river.
