I've been trying to trace CHARLES ERNEST TRESCHER who was born abt 1836 in Saxe Coburgh Germany. I've found a marriage in 1862 to ANN AISTROPE in Hull. Then 1871 census.under Ernest Trescher in Camberwell, Surrey. The next I can come up with is an ERNEST TREASURE 1881 in Newington, London. Married but no wife. Then again on the 1891 census in Camberwell. Same occupation, Tailor, and born in Germany. Do you think this could be the same man? I would be grateful for any comments on this. Many thanks.

It isa certainly very likely, as surnames were anglicised either on purpose by the individual or accidentally by the person recording the name, like the enunmeretor or the transcriber. My children's great great grandmother Lucy Miller aka Muller was born in Saxe Coburg , her family's name was changed on the 1881 census. I joined the Anglo-German family history society when I discovered her in 1992 and they were a great help. Can you find any of Charles (Ernest) and Ann';s children using the Treasure surname and the Tresher surname? The Anglo-German FHS would be able to give you info on the suname variations.

if you use this site to search for Trescher you should find the German sources.

Hi Dot, yes have found three children with the Trescher name and possibly the death for Ann Trescher (wife). No death for Charles Trescher but death for Ernest Treasure. Many thanks for the web sites. I will have a look there. You are always a mine of information about these things and I would like to thank you for taking the time to reply.
