Dot ,i have at last found Allen Beevers! After yet another blind search i found that his name was transcrbed incorrectly as Beeveur.I have used soundex so many times without any luck.So i've just come in from the pub and thought i'd have another go,now i can at least get his birth certificate and find where his father came from. Thanks again for your help and interest.Polly

That's brilliant Polly, it is the price we pay for this Government seconding the applicants from the YTS scheme in the 1980s into transcribing the census ( I kid you not!) hope it moves you on in your research polly.
Actually by 'this Government' I meant the British Government not the Labour Party lol

Hi Craft,He was a possibility but tracing through the census records shows he married but not to my Gt Grandmother, there was another one in Cowick too,so unless he was a bigamist he wasn,t that one either! The most likely one was born in Hull, i 1864 but there is no record of him in 1871.I have his marriage certificate,he married my Gt Grandmother in 1888 in Scarborough. Thanks Polly
