On my Great Gran's birth certificate, 1882, it was recorded that her Father was deceased. He was a Master Mariner. Henry Goulden (sometimes written as Youlden) Furneaux. How can I find out what happened to him?
Craft 1948 you are an absolute genius. I have all the birth/census details but how did you find out about the Norfolk. Where do I look for these details. Many many thanks. Happy New Year to you all.
Craft1948 - Answer 14. How did you find out he died on The Norfolk in 1882 please? I have followed the link from dothawkes31 but I can't even find The Hope.
on first page click on births, marriages and deaths
go down to the deaths and click on overseas 1761-1994
in the drop down selection click on GRO Marine Deaths 1846-1902
in the years between out in 1882-1882 and the name furneaux
this should give you a shet number 47 in alpha order
hi all.
slightly off thread, but Dot, how did you find the name of the ship he was on ?
I gave up looking for a boat my great grandfather served on (and was court-martialled, apparently).
I though the only way was via the admiralty, or possibly Kews records.
quick reply. thanks.
He was George Keates, born in Hanley, Staffs 1840, died in Romford, Essex 1916.
I have him on the 1851 census, then he apparently ran away to sea in 1852/53, and was on an icebreaker when court martialled. back in Staffs and married in 1859.
I was interested in the navy story, but wasn't sure how/how easy it would be to check or get info from the authorities. (and I didn't want to hijack this thread)
