His name was Alexander Laing, does that sound a wee bit Scottish to anyone else?

If the age is right, and his father is Jonathan who is a plumber it's the right one.
After all this, going back to the original query, I haven't found any more children for him but will try thegenealogist.

Thanks craft - yes I was thinking along the same lines - been having another look at Ancestry co. - when I was looking a few weeks ago for my husband's family - actually came across a marriage certificate for my husband's nan & grandad - that led me to believe you could view all marriage certificates on this site, but obviously not.
If the John Baxandall born in Dec 1911's the right one (Prestwich Q4 8D 597) then the mothers surname's Lyne as craft said.
I've found 2 brothers on the bdm site -
Frederick C Baxandall born Jun 1913 Prestwich 8D 660
George E Baxandall born Dec 1916 Prestwich 8D 520
both have mothers surname of Lyne, so prbable relatives there.

Eureka.....I think.
I checked for births for Baxandall from 1946 and found 2 for Romford but neither child's mother had the maiden name Pickett.
However. Norma H Baxandall born in 1946 had a mother with the maiden name of Wilsher.
Helen E Wilsher married Francis R Pickett in Romford in 1937.....so it wasn't her first marriage. She would have the name of Pickett on the marriage certificate to John Baxandall but would give her maiden name of Wilsher on their daughter's birth certificate....so yes...your aunt had a half-sister.

So Craft - Helen Pickett aka Wilsher and John Baxandall had the child the same year as they got wed in 1946 - they must have lived together and got wed because of the birth of the child.
OMG Crafty - you are a little diamond - I will go and have a look on Ancestry co.
Thank you so much
Thanks also Munchie I will follow up your leads aswell.
