I have found some entries on Ancestry which may be of interest in searching my family tree. Where can I now go to find out more information in England, e.g. The Roll No. and Page No. to try and trace the necessary certificates.
I live in Scotland and know how to look for records here but am not familiar with the English system.
Do you mean that you have the volume and page number? If so the General Records Office. As i think DotHawkes pointed out recently they are going to go up in cost soon from £7.00 to £9.00
Hello Polly, thank you for you reply and your help. I have the volumes and pages numbers so I shall better do something about getting a hold of one or more certificates before the cost goes up.
Use this link filibuster, it's simple and quick and cheaper than ancestry.
http://www.gro.gov.uk...tificates/default.asp
It is self explanatory but if you want to avoid errors add anything to corroborate the entry, there's a space to do that.
Following my previous post, I confirm I was on this site yesterday and was completing the details to obtain a Certificate but was asked for the actual date of death and didn't have it so had to abandon the search.
I think this may be because you didn't tick the box which says General Register Office details known
Here is a link to a step by step guide I gave someone else...you obviously put in your own details
You will see that they give a despatch date and so allow a day or so after that date for the post, I had 6 certs scheduled for despatch yesterday but they didn;t arrive today, hope they get her tomorrow I'm lookign forward to seeing something I;ve put off ordering for nearly 20 years!! Through my research I've probably got most of the info but I wanted to complete the sets!!
Hi filibuster
All 6 certs arrived today and I;ve just opened all of them, apart from one name I had worked out from wills and census and parish registers who was who but it's good to have the official record. I now for the first time since i started have found out who my Welsh Great Great Grandmother was, her name was Annie Britland, totally new name to me and it's quite exciting to at last know her name.
you can share your brick wall here filibuster and we'll all have a think!!!
dot I hit a brick wall years ago trying to find out when my great-grandmother died. They've all had a try on genes reunited for me and it's the only thing annoying me that I can't find out.
