I really don't know which category to put this in. Today a letter came to my house addressed to The Residents. It had my address and postcode on it. The letter was from the above office saying someone would be calling at my house to interview us. It went on to say our address had been randomly chosen from the post office. The interview would take between 30 and 60 minutes. It would be about our lifestyle, housing, work etc. My question is. Do we have to do this. The letter stated that this information is collected so they can work with hospitals, schools and others, who need this information to carry out their jobs. We have a national census next year so why ask for this now. So to repeat myself. Do I have to take part. Thanks for reading this. Cas

No
If there is a telephone number on the letter phone them and tell them you do not want to answer any questions.
Caslass I think this was asked quite a while back, it seems that it's quite legitimate (as I rcall) but you certainly don't have to participate. They do it every so often. If you google the ONS there are several references to their various surveys.
No you do not have to do this. It's completely up to you.
The Office of National Statistics does collect information in this sway , but it is entirely voluntary. They will give you a small gift voucher (about £10) for helping them out.

If you give them a call and say that you do not want to participate, they won't come.
The actual interview involves asking you about your income, your health, what government services you use etc. It is quite detailed and is a lot more comprehensive than the census information. But you do not have to do participate.

Thank you all for your replies. I was really stressing about this. I have rung the phone number they gave and told them I do not want to take part. Hopefully that will be the end of it. Once again Thankyou.
I'm sure you will never hear from them again.
Don't stress. :-))

Ladyalex, I really heeded your advice. I am a keep my self to my self sort of person. What I earn is my concern. I don't claim any benefits, and pay my own way in the world. Thanks again. Cas
