Im trying the trace the death of John Wm McKie (McKay) b 1870/71 in Seaham, Durham. Last known census 1891 as a trooper at Regents Park barracks. He married Edith Wilde in 1894 and had two children, last one b 1898 in London, but his wife is a widow on 1901 census. Cant find death. All military records I look at only mention WW1 or WW2. Is there a special Trooper records as I presume he must have died doing this. So his death must be between 1898-1901
Thanks

If he did not die of natural causes he may have been a casualty of the Boer War.

Hi Craft

No Im afraid I dont know his regiment. Only just found out about him being a Trooper. His wife and family were in Amport, Hamphire and then Marylebone, London so I wouldnt have though he would be a Highlander ( I presume by that you mean of scottish enrty)
Could this be him as in 1891 census he is shown as in the Life Guards

Name: W McKie
Casualty Type: Died
Casualty Date: 11 Mar 1900
Casualty Place: Kimberley
Rank: Trooper
Force: South Africa Field Force
Regiment: Housedhold Cavalry
Battalion: 1st Life Gds.
Number: 1473

There's a Boer War deaths in ancestry.
Looks like the W McKie in the deaths was your guy as in the gallantry awards he is shown as ........McKie, 1473 Shoeing Smith J W. QSA (2) so his service number ties in.
