At present I want to make full use of the subscription to one of the family history sites and time spent on google maps (free) is time not spent gathering information. I don't really want to renew the subscription again, at least not for a while. Once I have exhausted the Census records, BMD and the like then I would like to use the street view to see how many of the addresses still remain and what they look like. Estate agent sites are also good. If you can find either the property itself or one in the same road, you get pictures and info such as floor plans, what alterations have been made over the years, and of course the value of it now.
I use it all the time craft! I want to know where they lived and the houses etc. I also use an old maps site from time to time. Can't remember the name of it right now, but when I refind an old link, I'll post it. It has some good OS maps from the last century. Ideally you are meant to buy them, but you can still get some good views.
